Miner Golf Completes Round One of Western Intercollegiate

SANTA CRUZ, Calif. – After a late start due to rainfall, the UTEP men's golf team completed round one and part of round two on Saturday at the Pasatiempo Golf Course (Par 70/6,615 yards) in Santa Cruz, Calif. The Miners shot 18-over 368 to sit in 14th place out of 15 teams in the competitive field that includes six top-25 teams. More than four inches of rain fell on the course Friday night, delaying the 8:30 a.m. (PDT) shotgun start by two hours. At the conclusion of round one, the teams played round two until nightfall. The round will resume tomorrow at 8:30 a.m. (PDT) with the final round following immediately after with continuous play. 

Texas, ranked no. 14 in the nation, leads the pack with 3-under 347, followed by no. 20 North Carolina (E) and no. 21 Southern California (+2).

Aaron Terrazas and Santiago Castilla led the Miners in round one, both firing a round of 72 to tie for 35th place. Charles Corner and Nicklas Pihl were both two strokes back in their rounds of 74 to share a spot in 63rd, while fellow senior Prescott Mann shot a round of 76 to tie for 75th place. Settavut Paradee rounded out the Miners' card after shooting 78 to get a share of 84th place in the pool of 95 competitors. Terrazas and Mann paced the UTEP squad in birdies with 6, while Paradee led the team in pars with 23.

As a unit, the Miners collected 112 pars, the third most in the field, while picking up 23 birdies.
