UTEP Volleyball Adds Two

EL PASO, Texas – The UTEP volleyball team continues to build for the upcoming 2018 season, adding Erika Sianez and Alexandra "Ale" Torres, head coach Holly Watts announced on Thursday. Sianez will be joining the Miners after a stint at Western Texas College, while Torres will be graduating from Hutto High School this spring, both have El Paso roots. 
 
Sianez is a native El Pasoan and El Paso High School alum, graduating in 2015. The five-foot-one-inch tall libero and defensive specialist spent two years at Western Texas College, seeing action in 75 matches and 261 sets. Sianez picked up 1,167 digs (4.47 digs/set) for the Westerners while also notching 76 assists, 71 service aces and 10 total kills in her career at Western Texas College. Her efforts earned her a spot on the 2016 Western Junior College Athletic Conference All-Conference Volleyball Honorable Mention team. She has 10 years of club volleyball experience under her belt, playing for six different area clubs. 

Torres was born in El Paso, where she stayed until seventh grade before moving to Hutto, Texas and joining the Hutto High School varsity volleyball squad as a sophomore. In three years at the high school level, the five-foot-seven-inch defensive specialist played in 269 sets, dishing out 967 assists while registering 765 digs, 65 aces and 62 kills. Torres is also an honor roll student, student council member and a secretary for the Hutto High School senior class. She chose UTEP because she said she loves El Paso and intends to pursue a mechanical engineering degree. 

The 2018 UTEP volleyball slate begins on Aug. 18, when the Miners host Universidad Regional del Norte in an exhibition match in Memorial Gym at 1 p.m.
