UTEP Golf Tied for First, Terrazas and Ambrosius Tally Career Rounds at the Pepsi-Cola Classic

LAS CRUCES, N.M. – UTEP golf's Aaron Terrazas had a career day as the senior fired a 10-under par and is in first place on the player leaderboard, while the Miners (291-282—573) overall are tied for first place with Grand Canyon (292-281—573) following the first day at the Pepsi-Cola Classic at Red Hawk Golf Club (par 72/7,523 yards) on Saturday.
 
Terrazas (69-65—134) shot a career-low 65 in round no. 2, moving up the leaderboard to first place. NM State's Mike McGilton (67-72—139), who was honored as co-champion with Terrazas at the Herb Wimberly Intercollegiate this past week, is also in contention at second place.
 
Oskar Ambrosius (74-67—141) also set a personal record as he continued his solid play. The sophomore is in fourth place, but shot up 16 spots after posting a career-low 67 in second round action.
 
Terrazas leads the field with 13 birdies, including seven in the second round. He birdied holes five and six to get off to a strong start, parred hole seven, and then registered four consecutive birdies on holes eight through 11. Ambrosius ranked second with 10 birdies.
 
Terrazas fired a 6-under par on par 5 scoring to lead the field, while Ambrosius shot a 4-under.
 
The Miners, who led the field with a total of 38 birdies, fired a season-low 282 during the second round as Grand Canyon answered with a 281.
 
Senior Settavut Paradee (75-74—149) and sophomore Santiago Castilla (73-76—149) are tied for 25th, while true freshman Marcus Khaw (78-78—156) ranks tied for 47th.
 
As far as Miners competing as individuals – freshman Greg Yellin (73-74-147) ranks tied for 19th, junior Eduardo Gonzalez (73-77—150) shot a season-low in the first round and is ranked tied for 28th, sophomore Cole Donielson (75-77—152) also shot a season-low during the first round and is tied for 34th, and freshman Nattapol Udomrat (77-75—152) is tied for 34th.
 
Final round action is set for an 8:15 a.m. shotgun start on Sunday.
